The kind folks at Bukms provided me with this Surge Protector Desktop USB Charging Station (6-Foot Power Cord, Grey 10-Outlet + 4-USB) in exchange for sharing my unbiased review...
This item is made in China. It arrived in a box suitable for gift giving and without any chemical smell. The color I received looks nice with a white outlet and light carpet where visible.
It has rubber feet underneath so it won't slide around if on a counter. The handle at the top makes it easy to hang from under the bottom of a desk or as you wish, if you want to hide it but still easily access it.
It is designed with 10 outlets and four USBs (up to 2.1 Amps per USB port) and an on/off button for each layer which prevents phantom power from being drawn. The whole unit rotates so accessing cords going different directions is convenient.
The cord is pretty hefty and is designed to be retractable. I've pulled it out a couple feet and it's easily gone back in but the full length I've read can be more difficult to work with.
This tower has a smaller footprint than most power strips laid flat but is larger than we'd expected (although it is as described). The outlets are not too close together which can be problematic with other designs.
We've had this product in use for over three months without problems. Will update this review should we have any issues come up.
Smart design with various types of protection, at a reasonable price for currently under $37, and all that it offers. It does not get hot to the touch with repeated use.
Paired with good cables, it charges fast. I tested it out using the four USB ports simultaneously, charging the following items:
-My Samsung Note 5 Cell Phone
-My husband's Samsung Galaxy S7
-Our Google Nexus 7, 2nd Generation, Tablet
-
I've not yet tried plugging in 10 plugs at the same time but have used three plugs, plus the four USBs. Very convenient only needing to use one wall outlet and being able to charge all my devices at once.
My reason for 4 stars rather than 5 is primarily it's size and that the cord retraction isn't fantastic. The size is as listed, under 6" wide at the bottom and roughly 11" tall including the handle. If I were to order another, I'd go with a smaller version; although this only weighs 2 lb, it is too large for us to want to put it into a suitcase.
My dad was going to take this to use in Afghanistan, which uses the same outlet size as China but unfortunately couldn't fit it with everything else he needed. If you need 10 outlets, this will do the job.
Recommended; works well. Uploading some photos so you can get a closer look at it upon arrival, see the specs, and get a feel for it's size. Smile. Hope this is helpful!
