The kind folks at Sanfore provided me with this
Elfina Dual Curling Iron/Curling Wand and Hair Straightener (2 in 1 Mini Portable Hair Styler-Black) in exchange for sharing my unbiased review...
I really wanted to like this product more but am rating it 3 stars, just okay, for a few reasons. First off, I wouldn't say this is "mini" or anymore "portable" than any other flat iron or curling iron I've owned. It combines two products but I still think those two terms should be removed from the product title because it's not smaller than average.
It arrived in a box suitable for gift giving and without any chemical smell. It was in a clear plastic bag inside, without any further protection. There were no instructions or warranty information. (Packaging can always change of course and most importantly, it was in good shape but I've received better in it's price range.)
For reference, I'm from Afghanistan so I've got thick hair and loads of it. I've ordered a brush straightener here and wasn't expecting a brush that heats up to actually straighten my hair but it actually worked well. I thought this might work similarly but it didn't do quite as well...
As with any hot tool, it's recommended to coat your ends with a good heat protectant product (or mix of essential oils) to protect it from getting fried, faded, and breaking.
You also want to be sure to keep the hot tool moving; brushing small sections at a time will give you the best results. Best used on dry hair.
The handle and back of the paddle don't get too hot to touch. At the full 220°Celsius (or 428° Fahrenheit), the bristles didn't get hot. I waited a while too but since the bristles don't seem to heat up, even moving slowly, brushing with the curler didn't seem to do much for my hair.
It heats up as quickly as my other irons but doesn't seem to straighten as well (clamping with the flat iron) as one I have that maxes at 410°. I'm guessing it's the ceramic but I'm not positive.
The button placement doesn't cause me to accidentally press the temperature buttons as much as others while brushing through my hair.
It's a good size in terms of not taking up too much drawer space and being comfortable to hold. The cord is a good length and I like that it rotates, keeping it tangle free.
I love the design idea but for the weight and thickness of my hair, this doesn't work very well. I think it would probably work fine for someone with thinner hair.
Uploading some photos so you can get a closer look. Smile. Hope this is helpful!
